Power BI is the latest addition to Microsoft’s BI (Business Intelligence) toolbox and taps into a market thirsty for user-friendly self-service Business Intelligence. With Power BI, ends users will be able to extract and analyze relevant data on a simple platform that combines data transformation, data analysis, and data visualization into a single tool and thus makes it exceedingly easy to create personalized data solutions.

Power BI is the ideal tool if you want to visualize and present your data in an easy, stylish, and meaningful way thereby making the implications of your data clear as crystal to your readers.

In this online workshop, we will discuss how to compose your own data models based on different data sources, including tables from an existing Data Warehouse and external data in Excel, CSV, etc.

The main focus of the workshop will be on how to create simple and user-friendly dashboards and reports with the very simple and intuitive Power BI user interface.

Please make sure to download the Power BI Desktop prior to joining the workshop. If you do not have access to a Windows computer to run the Power BI Desktop, you can create a free virtual workstation with Microsoft Azure.

Once downloaded please complete the following Microsoft Learn exercises:

Getting Started (47 min.)

Working with Data (1 hr. 15 min.)

Modeling Data (1 hr. 7 min.)

Please note that in the workshop we will be working with the examples from the above exercises so completing them beforehand will be of great advantage when attending.

Power BI certificates are, to a limited extent, available to CBS attendees, more information will be provided in the workshop.
