Qualitative Data Analysis with Nvivo

Qualitative Data Analysis with Nvivo In-Person

In this introductory course, we will look at some basic NVivo features , including

  • How to start a new project and import and organize data
  • How to encode and enrich data
  • How to probe and make sense of your data
  • How to present data.

After taking the course, you should be able to start engaging with the software in a both purposeful and meaningful way.

Qualitative research is a time-consuming exercise that requires strict methodological discipline and transparency on the part of the researcher at every step in order to ensure scientific rigor and reliability.

There are no real shortcuts, but with NVivo you can harness the process and achieve the necessary consistency and robustness in your analysis. The software can help you organize and make sense of most types of unstructured and semi-structured data, whether of your own making (interviews, surveys, etc.) or ready-made and harvested from online platforms such as YouTube.

Bonus information

Did you know that NVivo does not require you to transcribe all your interviews? The software is more than happy to work with the audio or video recordings directly.
If you do decide to transcribe, however, CBS Library provides access to a couple of auto-transcription services that can help you speed up the process.

Follow three simple steps to create your personal NVivo account:

  1. Send an e-mail from your CBS e-mail account to nvivo@cbs.dk with the subject "NVivo license request"
  2. Download NVivo for Windows or NVivo for Mac from the registration e-mail
  3. Enter the license key

You do not need to sign in after applying the license key.
