PhD Defence: Malia Carvalho
In order to obtain the PhD degress, Malia Carvalho has submitted her thesis entitled:
Translating Theory into Practice
- A Match Made in Embodiment
This dissertation examines how management concepts become internalized, enacted, and habitualized through embodied experiences in organizational life. It consists of three articles that explore this topic empirically, conceptually, and methodologically. Based on a longitudinal, multi-method study of three managers in the creative and digital industries, the dissertation shows how bodily, sensory, and relational practices shape how ideas such as psychological safety and touchpoints unfold in practice. It introduces the notion of embodied translation and a three-level methodological approach that includes explicit articulation, observed enactment, and embodied engagement through the researcher's own body. The dissertation contributes to institutional theory by highlighting the affective and relational dimensions of idea translation.
The thesis will be available from research.cbs.dk
