Speed Up Research with HPC (Part 1) Online
Is your computer struggling with big data or complex analyses?
High Performance Computing (HPC) and cloud platforms give you access to state-of-the-art machines (CPU and GPU) that go far beyond the limits of your laptop. They make it possible to analyze huge datasets, train AI models, run LLM workflows, and finish computations in hours instead of days. Once reserved for experts, HPC is now accessible free of charge and easy to use for all CBS researchers.
In this session, you will:
- Get a clear introduction to what HPC is and who needs HPC in their research.
- Learn what national HPC facilities are available to CBS researchers – and how you can use them at no cost.
- Get a hands-on introduction to the UCloud platform, including:
- Get hands-on introduction to UCloud platform, an easy-to-use cloud platform, and run your first job step by step.
- Gain a theoretical introduction to parallel programming and how this speeds up your computations.
After the session, you will understand when and why HPC is the right tool, and you’ll be ready to take the first concrete steps toward using free supercomputing resources in your own research.
Prerequisites
This session is primarily designed for researchers who already have intermediate experience with data analysis using programming languages such as Python or R. You should be comfortable writing and running scripts, handling datasets. No prior HPC experience is required.
